HANJIN Shipping (China), the China
headquarters of the South Korean line, has seen its container
shipping business in Shanghai, China, develop at a healthy
pace in recent years. As a reflection of this the company has
just moved into new offices that it has purchased in the city.
The new offices are on floors 25 and 26 of Zhongrong Hengrui
International Plaza and occupy 2,924 square metres of office
space. Floor 26 will house the company's regional
headquarters.
Since the establishment of its Shanghai office in 1992,
Hanjin has been making great headway, with its container
business in Shanghai growing rapidly to transport 580,000 TEU
last year. In the first half of this year, its throughput
reached 327,000 TEU, a 17-per-cent increase over the same
period in 2005.
"With these successes, Hanjin Shipping (China) Company has
become one of the leading foreign shipping companies in
Shanghai Port," said Chen Xuyuan, the president of Shanghai
International Port Group, speaking at a celebration for the
opening of the new offices on July 7.
"In the process of building an international shipping centre
and a world-class port, as well as developing to an excellent
terminal operator, we hope to further strengthen business
co-operation with Hanjin Shipping (China) Company and all the
other global shipping companies, in order to develop new
shipping and port markets, and achieve win-win results," said
Mr.Chen.
Shanghai Port is now undergoing rapid development, he said.
In the first half of this year, Shanghai Port handled 10.08
million TEU, and total throughput was expected to reach 21
million TEU this year, while the total tonnage of the port has
been enjoying fast growth.
